Publishing, audience publishing, how to publish audiences to a DSP

What are the different Publishing options when sending audiences to my DSP?

The Publish functionality sends the Devices within the Audience to a Demand Side Partner (DSP) or social network. Available DSPs will be set up and provided by your administrator. The regular or default audience and any or all extensions below can be published simultaneously to the DSP.

In about 90% of the cases simply choose Regular, Extended or Both and then hit publish.  Leave the defaults (i.e. Renew) as is.  However, we have some great options available for certain circumstances. (Note: some options may not be available for all DSPs.)

RENEW (default) - Publishes the exact audience as created on a schedule to keep it from expiring. Republishes the same exact audience again. Some DSPs flush their audiences periodically and this prevents the audience from being removed and it will continue serving as per the schedule you set up.

REFRESH - Adds additional Devices to the same audience within the DSP. You set the date range you would like to add when setting up the schedule. No need to reassign the audience to the campaign in the DSP. Original audience minus any Devices we detect as inactive and adding any new Devices seen at the original location(s.) This function takes the same Geoframes, refreshes to the selected lookback period and publishes the new audience. (Note: Not available for all DSPs.)

REPUBLISH - Similar to Refresh, but publishes the new date range as a separate audience in the DSP so you will need to manually assign the new audience for the specified date range to the campaign. This publishes only the "Net New" Devices based on the look back you set up.

I hit Publish, but I cannot see the Audience in my DSP seat. What can I do?

First, confirm your audience was properly sent to the DSP from the platform. In the audience library, go to the audience in question and click on the 3 dot "action" menu, then click "View Details."  Scroll down to find "Jobs," and your publish job should be in the list. A "grey" indicator means the publish is still processing, a "green" indicator means the publish was successful, and a "red" indicator means the job failed. For job failures, send a chat via Intercom (bottom right of screen) and include the name of the audience. The support team will troubleshoot for you.

Additionally, you can scroll further in the audience details to view "Publication Information." Look at the Publication, Last Published Date, and most importantly, look at the Last Count. There should be a number in Last Count. That number represents the number of Mobile Device IDs that were sent to your DSP and confirms they received them. If the count is blank, there was an issue - the publish request did not complete (see above on job color indicators), there was an interruption in the upload, or the data was corrupted. If the count is blank, please reach out to support via Intercom and the team will troubleshoot. If the Last Count has a number of devices shown, the issue is with your DSP, as we received a confirmation that they received the completed file. Remember, in rare cases some DSPs may take up to 24 hours to load your audience.

My ads were serving, but now they have stopped. What can I do?

There are a few things to double check if your ads are no longer serving in your DSP or social network.

Every DSP has different parameters around what they consider an "active" device for serving, so it is recommended to republish your audience throughout your campaign to ensure your audience does not expire in the DSP and to add fresh devices to your audience.

  1. Check that the audience is valid (not out-of-date). If the audience is out-of-date, clone it with new dates within the 12-month lookback window and re-publish the audience.

  2. If your audience is on a publishing schedule, check the date of the latest publish, and re-initiate the schedule if needed to keep adding new devices to your audience.

If you have double checked these items and the audience is in your DSP seat, but ads are still not serving, you will likely need to review your line item campaign setup including bid pricing, etc.

How can I cancel publishing an audience to a DSP?

Once you click on Publish, the file is sent immediately to the DSP and cannot be stopped. If you need to stop subsequent publishes, go to the audience in the Audience Library, click the 3 dot "action" menu to the right and then "View Details." Scroll to the "Publication Information" section, then click on the down arrow to the left of the publication line item, and click on "Cancel Republish Schedule."

How do I extend publishing the audience to the DSP?

Using the default settings, OnSpot will continue to send the audience to the DSP for 6 months. You can extend this by going to the audience in the Audience Library, click the 3 dot "action" menu to the right and then "View Details."  In the "Publication Information" section, click on the down arrow to the left of the publication and click on Extend Schedule. (Note, you may need to refresh the audience lookback period before publishing if the audience is older to avoid it being out of date.)
