We process tens of billions of mobile device records each day. Those records contain several pieces of data including a Mobile Ad ID (MAID), latitude/longitude, and a date/time stamp. The record shows when an ad call or ping was sent from the phone to the Ad Network or app developers servers.
Dwell time refers to the time frame between a device first entering the location and then when the device left. There is no trigger on entering or leaving a location that would help us identify dwell time.
We do have downloadable reports (Device Observations, Geoframe Observations) that you could download and analyze in Excel to try to extrapolate dwell time from the data, but that might only provide an estimate and would not be 100% accurate.
The important thing to keep in mind is that different location types will have their own "average" dwell time, if an average can be identified. In other words, dwell time entirely depends on what do people do when they are at the location. Is it a place someone will be quickly in and out (convenience store, QSR) or will they be spending quite a bit of time there (shopping mall, car dealership)? Are people encouraged or discouraged to use their device while visiting (e.g. a sports game vs. a movie theater)? These factors and more can affect dwell time as well as overall device count seen at a location.
